Customer Service Agreement

Please review this agreement before booking. Placing an order with ShiftHaul means you accept these terms. Have this reviewed by your own counsel before launch.

1. Parties and scope

This Customer Service Agreement (“Agreement”) is between ShiftHaul (“ShiftHaul,” “we,” “us”) and the individual or entity requesting vehicle transportation services (“you,” “Customer”). ShiftHaul is authorized by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) as both a licensed property broker and a motor carrier. Depending on the shipment, we may arrange your move with a vetted carrier (acting as broker) or transport it ourselves (acting as carrier). This Agreement governs both roles.

2. Services

We arrange and/or provide door-to-door transportation of your vehicle between the pickup and delivery locations you specify, within the 48 continental United States. On every load, we perform our carrier-verification process before your vehicle moves (see Section 9).

3. Quotes, pricing, and payment

  • Estimates. Prices shown on this website are estimates calculated from distance and vehicle type. They are illustrative and do not constitute a binding offer.
  • Final price. Your dispatcher confirms the final price before dispatch. It may differ from the online estimate based on route, timing, vehicle size and condition (e.g., inoperable, modified, or oversized vehicles), and current carrier availability.
  • Payment. Payment terms — including any deposit and the balance due on delivery — are set out in your order confirmation. Accepted payment methods are provided at booking.
  • No hidden increases. Once your price is confirmed and a carrier is assigned, we do not raise the price except for changes you request or conditions you did not disclose.

4. Booking and changes

An order is confirmed when you accept your quote and any required deposit is received. If your dates, locations, vehicle, or vehicle condition change, notify us promptly; changes may affect price and availability and require a revised confirmation.

5. Cancellation and refunds

You may cancel before a carrier is assigned and dispatched, subject to the cancellation terms in your order confirmation. Once a carrier has been dispatched to pick up your vehicle, cancellation may incur a fee. Refund eligibility and timing are described in your order confirmation.

6. Pickup and delivery

  • Windows, not guarantees. Pickup and delivery dates are estimates. Your dispatcher provides an honest window; we do not promise an exact date we cannot keep.
  • Access. Transport is door-to-door where safe and legal. If a full-size carrier cannot reach your address (narrow streets, low clearance, local restrictions), the driver will arrange a nearby accessible meeting point.
  • Availability. You or an authorized adult (18+) must be available to release the vehicle at pickup and receive it at delivery, and to sign the Bill of Lading / inspection report at both ends.
  • Inoperable vehicles. Non-running vehicles must be disclosed in advance and may require special equipment and pricing.

7. Vehicle condition, inspection, and claims

  • Inspection. The vehicle’s condition is documented on a Bill of Lading / inspection report at pickup and again at delivery. Inspect your vehicle at delivery before signing.
  • Noting damage. Any new damage must be noted in writing on the delivery inspection report and signed by you and the driver at the time of delivery.
  • Filing a claim. Cargo-damage claims are filed against the transporting carrier’s cargo insurance. We will provide the carrier’s insurance information and assist you with the claims process. Claims should be submitted promptly and in accordance with the carrier’s and insurer’s requirements.

8. Insurance and liability

Every transporting carrier is required to maintain active cargo and liability insurance, which we verify with the insurance agent of record before dispatch (see Section 9). Your vehicle is covered by the assigned carrier’s cargo insurance while in the carrier’s custody, subject to that policy’s terms, limits, and exclusions. When ShiftHaul acts as broker, we are not the insurer and are not liable for the independent acts, omissions, or negligence of a carrier; our role is to arrange transport and verify the carrier as described here.

9. Carrier verification

On every load, ShiftHaul verifies the assigned carrier before your vehicle moves:

  • We confirm the carrier by SMS to the phone number on file with the FMCSA (not a number the carrier self-supplies).
  • We obtain the certificate of insurance directly from the insurance agent of record and confirm the policy is active and covers your vehicle.
  • At pickup, we match the truck’s VIN and a photo of the driver to the assigned carrier, logged with a timestamp to your record.

Verification is a service performed in good faith using available records. It does not make ShiftHaul the insurer or transfer to us liability for a carrier’s independent conduct.

10. Customer responsibilities

  • Provide accurate pickup/delivery information, vehicle details, and condition.
  • Remove personal items and valuables. Carriers are generally not licensed to transport household goods, and items left in the vehicle are not covered.
  • Prepare the vehicle: no more than a quarter tank of fuel, disable alarms/toll transponders, secure or remove loose and aftermarket parts, and note any special handling needs.
  • Ensure the vehicle is available and releasable at pickup and receivable at delivery.

11. Delays and force majeure

Transit times may be affected by weather, road and traffic conditions, mechanical issues, carrier scheduling, and other events beyond our reasonable control. ShiftHaul is not liable for delays caused by such events but will keep you informed and work to resolve issues.

12. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, ShiftHaul’s liability for any claim arising out of or relating to brokered transportation is limited to the amount of the brokerage fee paid to ShiftHaul for the affected shipment. Cargo-loss and damage claims are governed by the transporting carrier’s insurance and applicable law. ShiftHaul is not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages.

13. Dispute resolution and governing law

This Agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Indiana, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. The parties will attempt in good faith to resolve any dispute informally before pursuing other remedies. Venue for any dispute lies in the state or federal courts located in Indiana, unless otherwise required by law.

14. Privacy

Information you provide is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy. We share only what is necessary to arrange and verify your shipment (for example, with the assigned carrier and insurer of record) and do not sell your personal information.

15. Changes and acceptance

We may update this Agreement from time to time; the “Last updated” date reflects the current version. Your order confirmation, together with this Agreement, forms the complete understanding between you and ShiftHaul for your shipment. By booking, you acknowledge that you have read and accepted these terms.
